Student Support Coach (Tentative) [Thailand]


 

Full-time position effective August 2023


NIST is seeking experienced and collaborative educators to join our support services team. Our student support coaches (SSC) work with a team of SSCs to support the academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of a small group of students. Experience with learners who have autism-related and/or behavioral needs is preferred, with some understanding of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) desirable. The successful candidate’s central focus would be in supporting individual learners to access the academic demands across a range of subjects whilst also supporting them to successfully navigate the secondary school years. The appointed candidate will have an educational degree or specialisation in psychology, together with experience working with students with learning needs and/or behavioral challenges. Outstanding communication (both written and spoken) is required.

Professional expectations:

  • Excellent references indicating a passion for teaching, learning and the wellbeing of students
  • Working one-to-one with students providing in class and/or playground support
  • Deconstructing academic material to make it accessible for the individual student with support from Learning Support (LS) specialist teachers
  • Working closely with subject teachers to seek ways for the students to be part of an inclusive classroom
  • Being patient, caring, flexible and clear about learning intentions (growth mindset)
  • Collecting, analyzing, and using data to track growth and determine next steps for the learners
  • Seeking opportunities to support greater student agency but also appreciating the importance of structured support and skills development
  • Collaborating with other support personnel (i.e., subject and learning support teachers, behavioral specialists, student support coaches, counsellors…) to determine best practices for student’s growth across academic and social spheres
  • Supporting the students to function in an environment where the academic material may need to be significantly modified
  • Helping students learn how to respond appropriately to their peers in social situations
  • Encouraging and motivating students to be positive in their approach to learning whilst also helping to improve the student’s self-esteem and confidence as a learner
  • Collaborating with learning support (LS) team, other specialists, and subject teachers to develop and implement an Individualized Education Plan (IEP)
  • Participating in regular planning meetings with teachers and members of the student’s support team
  • Preparing resources to support learning
  • Providing regular feedback to the subject teachers, support manager, and parents
  • Participating in team meetings, staff meetings and professional development days (when applicable)
  • Ensuring realistic but high expectations
  • Staying informed of best practices in respect of learning challenges
  • Appreciating the impact of differentiated formative assessment (as, for, and of learning)
  • Familiarity with effective use technology
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Employing pedagogical practices in line with the school’s mission, vision, and values
  • Understanding of different cultural practices in line with international mindedness
  • Willingness to be solution focused and to proactively seek support when faced with uncertainty
  • Adherence to NIST’s Child Safeguarding Code of Conduct and NIST’s Professional Code of Conduct
  • Supporting school community, professional standards, and trust
  • Completing all duties as defined by the school’s leadership for the designated role

Qualifications & Other Requirements

  • Formal police clearance check
  • Valid passport or Thai ID Card
  • No restrictions on work permit/VISA applications.
  • A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in a related discipline (essential)
  • Outstanding communication skills in English (written and spoken)
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Knowledge of IB MYP programme (desirable)
  • At least 2 years of teaching experience or relevant experience working with adolescents in an inclusive environment
