In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Rosebank, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.
Job Description
-We are currently seeking for an Ultra Truck Operator to join our Kumba Iron Ore family, where you will responsible for the following:
- Ensuring equipment is inspected according to prescribed standards at the beginning of the shift and recorded in the inspection list
- Ensuring the inspection includes safe working condition of the multiple safety devices, e.g., collision avoidance system, cameras, fatigue monitoring system, fire suppression system, vehicle stability, as well as the general condition and safety of the truck, tyres, etc. to prevent damage and/or injury to people and to minimize financial losses
- Should be able to relieve Operations Controller from time to time
- Participate in multi-skilled initiative as per business needs
- Ensuring truck efficiency and optimal speed control is critical, which require frequent engagement with other equipment operators and road construction teams to ensure optimal cycle times
- Ensuring that operators are responsible for safe operation and adhering to very specific legislation, i.e., vehicle control which is reportable to legislative bodies like the DMR
- Payload optimization requires the truck operator to engage with the Shovel operator to ensure optimal loads are achieved
- Accurate loading is ensured by the loading scaled information and communication with the shovel operator
- Apart from benchmark operating hours, the truck operator is required to ensure efficient truck dispatch over and above what the system stipulates, and therefore need to continuously engage with team members, supervisor and the dispatch control room, especially when unplanned events occur
This is a fixed term contract for 12 or 24 months within the Mining Department at a Band 9 reporting to the relevant Shift Supervisor in the Section.
- Qualifications
-Grade 12 - VTS Dover Assessment Level 1 / Level 2+.
- Valid medical fitness certificate
- Primary and or Secondary equipment licenses will be beneficial (860/960 and 785 Water or Diesel Trucks)
Experience:
- 2-3 years' Mining Operations experience
- 1 year Operating Secondary Equipment
Knowledge and Skills
- The ability to do hard physical work
- Practical skills and technical knowledge
- Awareness of health and safety
- Communication skills and the ability to follow instructions
